Description of Soil Phosphorus

In this Soil Phosphorus book define Phosphorus (P) is an essential plant nutrient. The suboptimal availability and the nutrient imbalance in the root zone can adversely impact plant growth. While some have raised concerns about the limited supply of the proven reserves and the slogan “peak P,” others (United States Geological Survey, Food, and Agriculture Organization, International Plant Nutrition Institute, etc.) show that there are adequate phosphate rock sources to last for a few centuries. Furthermore, not only is the availability of P, even for a few centuries, a cause of serious concern but so is the possibility that the cost of extraction may increase, thereby raising the price of fertilizer. An increase in cost can be a factor because the demand for P fertilizers is projected to increase with the increase in the world population from 7.2 billion now to 9.7 billion by 2050.
